Kasaragod (KL)

Situated at the border of Kerala and Karnataka, the municipality of Kasaragod achieved fame when its prime tourist attraction- The Bekal Fort was featured in a popular Bollywood song. Constructed in 1650, the fort was built on the cliffs by the sea to store ammunition and provide a viable defence from maritime invaders. A prime feature of this fort is the water tank with a a long flight of steps leading to it. It was an important station during Tipu Sultan's campaign in the Malabar region. Influenced by the local Hindu, Christian and Muslim communities, the cuisine in this balmy, sunny town by the Arabian Sea is a eclectic mix of pungent spices and the sweet, nutty flavors of coconut.
